The death of Brigitte Hasselblatt in Tallinn on 17 May 2008 went unremarked by the mainstream media. Brigitte was a remarkable woman. She was born in Estonia in 1923, and although she had Swedish and German forbears, she considered herself very much an Estonian. The family left Estonia during the Second World War, and by the late forties Brigitte had trained as a midwife. In 1950, Brigitte converted to the Bahá'í faith.
