Trans-Caucasus rail link

by hidden europe

Summary

Plans for a new rail link between Turkey and Georgia offer the prospect of some tantalising new journeys by train into the Caucasus region.

The welcome news of a likely new Trans- Caucasus rail link will already have many enthusiasts for the Black Sea region planning future travels. If all goes according to plan, work will start later this year on a new 105 kilometre stretch of railway line linking the city of Kars in eastern Turkey with Akhalkalaki in Georgia. From there to Tbilisi, the existing rail infrastructure will be renewed. Once completed, the new route will open up a host of new travel possibilities.
