A second attempt to explore the islands and the ocean east of Spitsbergen. And this time, a successful one. During a remarkable four day non-stop journey, Umberto Nobile covered a wide swathe of the Arctic, heading east over Franz Josef Land to the north coast of Siberia. And returning to Kings Bay, with the craft still in fine shape, everyone aboard was confident to succeed in the upcoming voyage to the North Pole.
